Useful ideas from experience
The gender swap experiences forces students to look at the activity or situation from a different perspective and take the time to consider, understand and sympathies with the different role they have taken on. Here common grounds can be established and connections between contrast roles. This activity can be used to broaden students understanding, to make connections within the class or to change students perspectives or understanding of a concept or topic. For an in depth look at role reversal and its origin click HERE and explore the history of the activity. - Grace
Inspiring ideas
How can we inspire others to build their understanding and awareness of the arts? We use ideas to express the roles we play and the elements we incorporate to reinforce these roles. For example, when interacting with children and inspiring to keep them engaged with learning, I use elements of humour to show them that I can enact a positive atmosphere for students to learn within. An example of humorous role-playing could be demonstrated through this video (Click HERE) which shows how an actor can embrace a particular role and apply humour to the viewer to give them ideas about how they can express themselves with elements of the arts. This particular scene from Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994) inspires me to make children laugh when I embrace a dramatic role through humour. - Kyle
Inspiring ideas can be pulled from anywhere, through my research I found an article about Anti-Bullying drama ideas. This article inspired me to research, think about and explore how drama and The Arts can work to help bullying in and out of school environments. Click HERE to view the article. This article gave me the idea to bring awareness and information regarding bullying alive through the arts. To work through the different elements of The Arts (Dance, Drama, Music, Media and Visual Arts) Through students campaigning, planning and implementing ideas related to a specific topic, student engagement and creativity comes alive and students have the opportunity to express their points of view and feels as well as understand other points of view and perspectives. -Grace
